Each lesson is organised in a step‑by‑step format designed to build your understanding of line, tone, form, texture, shading, and colour theory. The emphasis is on exploration and skill‑building, making the classes ideal for beginners and intermediate learners.

Students work through a range of drawing and painting exercises, gaining the tools to develop a personal working method and a clear approach to each stage of the creative process.

Workshops at Wild Glen Creative Healing

Alongside the regular drop‑in sessions, Wild Glen Creative Healing is launching a new series of block‑based workshops, each running over three weeks from the studio in West Bay, Dunoon. These focused workshops allow students to deepen their skills step by step, building confidence and understanding through structured, hands‑on learning.

How to Draw the Human Head

This workshop is ideal for complete beginners, those new to portraiture, and intermediate artists who want to understand the structure of the human head. Over three weeks, you’ll explore several widely used methods for constructing and drawing the head including the Loomis method, the Reilly method, and sight‑size drawing.

You’ll move from skull to face, learning how underlying structure informs likeness. By the end of the block, you’ll have a stronger grasp of how to draw the human head with confidence and clarity the essential first step toward mastering portraiture.

Week 1: Rendering the human head starting with skull drawings, then adding basic structure using the Loomis method.

Week 2: Sketching the head using the Reilly method.

Week 3: Drawing the human face using the sight‑size approach.

The cost for this 3-week block is £90 which includes tuition, references images, replica skull for use in the class, all art materials, free tea and coffee.

Drawing a Clothed Model

This three‑week block is designed to guide students through each stage of the drawing process from composition to a fully completed drawing. You’ll develop a strong foundation in observational drawing, proportion, value, and form.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a fully rendered sketch and the skills needed to progress to the next block: painting the clothed model in oils.

Week 1: Sketching, composition, and rendering larger shapes.

Week 2: Values, shadows, and rendering medium shapes.

Week 3: Checking values, capturing likeness, and adding detail work.

The cost for this 3-week block is £120 which includes life model, tuition, all art materials, free tea and coffee.

Painting a Clothed Model in Oil

This block follows naturally from the drawing workshop above. Here, the focus shifts to composition, colour, and oil‑painting technique, with the goal of completing a finished painting by the end of the third week.

You’ll learn how to build an oil painting from the ground up from underpainting to colour mixing to final details using a clear, structured process.

Week 1: Sketching, composition, and underpainting.

Week 2: Values, colour mixing, and colour matching using primaries.

Week 3: Adding medium shapes and refining details.

The cost for this 3-week block is £120 which includes life model, tuition, all art materials, free tea and coffee.

Life Drawing Classes (Coming Soon)

Course Structure

These classes are planned as a block of six 2‑hour lessons, running over six consecutive weeks. Each week will focus on a different aspect of drawing from life, from quick gesture sketches to longer, more detailed studies.

Why These Classes Are Priced Differently
Working with life models involves higher costs, including professional fees and travel expenses to Dunoon. Because of this, life drawing will be priced differently from regular portrait classes.
Full pricing and booking details will be shared once everything is confirmed.
